Personal statement: Having benefited from the аĿª½±in many ways since my time as a PhD student, I would like to continue to contribute to the ongoing success of the аĿª½±through being a Member-at-Large of Council. I bring a perspective of someone who does research with the flavour of both pure and applied mathematics, and think that much less distinction should be made between the two. I believe that research of the highest quality is, and should be, undertaken at institutions all over the UK, and аĿª½±grants and research schools should continue to enable as many mathematicians as possible, including early career researchers, to grow and fulfil their potential as researchers and academics. I also feel that a crucial role needs to be played by learned societies such as the аĿª½±in advocating the nature and needs of their discipline to institutions, funders and government.
