About the Lectureship:
The 新澳开奖Hardy Lectureship is named after G.H. Hardy, former President of the Society and De Morgan Medallist. Originally awarded to a distinguished overseas mathematician in odd-numbered years.
The 新澳开奖Hardy Lecturer visits the UK for a period of about two weeks, and gives the Hardy Lecture at a Society meeting, normally held in London in July. The 新澳开奖Hardy Lecturer also gives at least six other lectures, on different topics, at other venues in the UK; the schedule is decided by the 新澳开奖Society, Lectures and Meetings Committee in consultation with the 新澳开奖Hardy Lecturer, and is designed to allow as many UK mathematicians as possible to benefit from the 新澳开奖Hardy Lecturer's presence in the UK.
Abstract:
Quantizing via Polytope counting: Old and new
鈥淭he mathematician鈥檚 patterns, like the painter鈥檚 or the poet鈥檚 must be beautiful; the ideas like the colours or the words, must fit together in a harmonious way..鈥
鈥 G.H. Hardy, A Mathematician's Apology
We will present a simple quantization method for toric manifolds. Our approach connects Bohr-Sommerfeld leaves to integer points located in the image of the moment map. This method is suitable for symplectic manifolds and specific classes of Poisson manifolds.
