How to join the London Mathematical Society

1. Applications

To apply for membership, candidates should complete theÌý

- Applications for Ordinary, Associate Ìýand Associate (undergraduate) Membership:

The аĿª½±requires candidates forÌýOrdinary, Associate and Associate (undergraduate)ÌýMembership to be proposed andÌýseconded by members of theÌýSociety. ÌýPlease ask an аĿª½±member(s) toÌýcounter-sign the application formÌýeither as a proposer or as a seconder. ÌýIf a candidate is attached to aÌýuniversity in the UK, it is sufficientÌýfor him/her to be proposed either by theÌýhead of a mathematicsÌýdepartment (if he/she is a аĿª½±member) or by the for his/her university. The proposal can then beÌýseconded by an аĿª½±Officer.ÌýAn applicant who has difficulty inÌýfinding a proposer or seconderÌýshould contact the LMSÌýMembership Department. An applicant for Associate (undergraduate) Membership who are based outside UK andÌý who has difficulty in finding a proposer or seconder areÌý askedÌýtoÌýprovideÌýa letter of support from a mathematics lecturer at their universityÌýconfirming that applicant isÌýregistered for a degrees in mathematical sciences at their university.

-Applications for Reciprocity Membership:

Candidates applying under a Reciprocity agreement do not need a proposer or seconder, but need to state of which Reciprocity Society they are a member.Ìý

All applications will beÌýacknowledged by email, which also informs the candidate of when his/her application will be presented for election to membership.

2. Election to Membership

Election to membership takes place at the next Council Meeting after the receipt of the application, subject to confirmation by a .Ìý

All successful applicants will then be infomed by letter afterÌýthe relevant LMSÌýmeeting and furtherÌýdetails of how to pay theirÌýsubscription will be included. ÌýCurrent subscription rates

NB: The subscription form must be completed and returned with the appropriate payment within six months of the date of election, otherwise the election becomes void.

After new members have paid their first subscription, they may sign the Members' Book and be formally welcomed to the Society at one of its Society Meetings.
